Meet Catherine - People & Culture Business Partner

• Why did you choose to work for MAN?

  A colleague of mine who had worked for MAN recommended that I apply, she thought I would like the culture and enjoy working with the people here. I came for six months to do a project and liked it so much I stayed!

• Describe what it’s like to work here in three words.

  Interesting, challenging, and enjoyable.

• What do you get up to in a typical week?

  I’m not sure there is a typical week! We are a relatively small team, so I am lucky that I get involved in a wide variety of things. I spend a lot of time working on projects that might impact across the whole of the business or in a specific function. I will also be working with our leadership team here in the North region, planning how we will develop and adapt to deliver the Company strategy in our region. I may also be providing advice to managers to help them support and engage with their teams.

• What’s been your proudest moment at work?

  Our team winning Team of the Year in the MAN Excellence Awards 2022. 

• What makes someone successful here?

  Having a willingness and ability to build good working relationships and support others. Having curiosity about how things work, how they can work better and the ability to adapt to change.

• How have you and your career developed since you joined us?

  I have had the opportunity to lead or contribute to projects where the outcome and the way to get there is not pre-defined. This has been really exciting for me to have that scope to explore options and learn more. It can be scary at times, but I’ve always had guidance and support available when I needed it to give me the confidence to keep going. It’s really worth it when you get a good outcome. 

• What’s the best thing about working for MAN?

  The people!

• What’s been your proudest moment outside of work?

  Completing my Masters Degree. I went back to university as a mature student and put a lot more in and got a lot more out of the experience than first time around.

• If you could invite 3 people to a dinner party, who would they be?

  Barack Obama, Marian Keyes and Billy Connelly – great conversation and great fun!

• Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.

  I’ve never seen Star Wars.

• What’s your favourite film?

  The Piano

• What’s your signature dish?

  Confit duck with dauphinoise potatoes, carrots, and green beans.
