Meet Alan - EPLS Operations Manager
-
Why did you choose to work for MAN?
I knew about MAN Trucks from when I served in HM Forces and I was excited by the EPLS Project converting Military vehicles.
-
Describe what it’s like to work here in three words.
Challenging, satisfying and quality.
-
What do you get up to in a typical week?
My week consists of planning, reviewing and managing the EPLS Project and Conversion schedule. I have sub-contractors, deliveries and vehicle movements to manage day to day. We have 40 members of staff on the project in Manchester and we have a set target weekly and then key contract milestones to meet. I also have two reporting chains within the organisation to keep informed and updated.
-
What’s been your proudest moment at work?
Recruiting ex-Military technicians and creating a combined Military/Civilian workforce that works well together. Meeting the conversion target of 286.5 hours per conversion and then maintaining a sustainable flow at reduced hours.
-
What makes someone successful here?
You need to work hard, work as part of the MAN team and ensure that your work is of the highest quality…Just be willing to ‘go the extra mile’. This does not mean overtime etc; just work to the best of your ability.
-
How have you and your career developed since you joined us?
I have developed a greater understanding of managing civilian technicians, complex reporting chains, Project Management and P&L.
-
What’s the best thing about working for MAN?
Target driven, solution orientated and inclusive.
MORE ABOUT YOU
-
What’s been your proudest moment outside of work?
Serving my country in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) and completing my Colour Service. All of this whilst being supported by my wife and three daughters. Without my family support, I would not have achieved what I have, both in the Military and since leaving.
-
If you could invite 3 people to a dinner party, who would they be?
Joe Parkinson (90’s Everton centre midfielder), Neville Southall (Everton Goal Keeper) and either Big Duncan Ferguson or Howard Kendall (again, both ex-Everton). A bit dull really and not very inspiring.
-
Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
I have been to the Queens Garden Party. Completed 23 ½ years Colour Service in REME.
-
What’s your favourite film?
Any of the original Star Wars films.
-
What’s your signature dish?
I make a great Burger. I cook regularly, however don’t really have a signature dish…
